Cause Celebre: The News of Capital Causes

Founder/Publisher/Editor/Writer

Karen established a niche newspaper in Washington, D.C. chronicling the charity-society community in the late 1980s. The bi-monthly publication met a need in the nation’s capital for hundreds of charitable nonprofit organizations headquartered there yet ignored by the mainstream press. “Cause Celebre” was the dedicated media outlet that publicized the caring and sharing missions of charities with the glitz and business of event fundraising. Every issue included specially created advertising, interviews, substantive event coverage, comprehensive calendar spreads, photos and more. An advisory board was formed of business leaders in Washington, D.C. who appreciated the stylish look and value of the publication to volunteerism. Several wrote fan letters, some in Congress, requesting start-ups of “Cause Celebre” in their hometowns.

The newspaper spawned a public affairs cable TV talk show with the same name aired on Northern Virginia Cable, produced and hosted by Karen.
