SOCIAL WORK , TEACHING

Eclectics often have multiple careers during interesting times. True to form, earliest careers concentrated on community work and teaching, which I loved: counselor at a group home for abused children (Pasadena, Calif.); after-school teen program development at a YWCA (Oakland, Calif.); fifth grade public school teacher (Los Angeles Unified School District), Spanish-speaking social worker (Los Angeles) and Spanish-speaking adult probation officer (San Francisco).

Skills learned in those positions included thoughtful planning, written reports and project management—skills that I use daily in my work today
